Masseria weddings in Puglia: the venues we have worked at

Aerial view of Masseria Calderisi at sunset, among the olive groves of Savelletri di Fasano

The masseria is the heart of a Puglia wedding. Built as large fortified farmhouses, with towers, courtyards and chapels, many have been beautifully restored and now host ceremonies and receptions among ancient olive trees, dry stone walls and pale local stone.

Every year we see many of them up close, from the ceremony to the last dance. Here are the ones where we have worked, area by area, with what each one offers and links to the stories we captured there. This isn’t a ranking: each has its own character, and the right choice depends on you.

Before you choose: the right questions

Fasano and Savelletri

Masseria Calderisi

A masseria dating back to 1658, halfway between Fasano and the sea, now a family-run boutique hotel with 24 rooms and 24 acres of olive groves, citrus orchards and Mediterranean gardens. It has a consecrated chapel, an inner piazza for candlelit dinners and a large tent among the olive trees for the reception. Ideal if you want your guests and the party in one place.

Masseria Alchimia

A white masseria in the countryside of Savelletri, 7 minutes from the sea, among ancient olive trees, dry stone walls and prickly pears. The day flows through its spaces: the olive grove for the ceremony, the cypress avenue and fields for sunset portraits, the stone terrace for dinner. And then its signature: a cave carved into the rock where the party goes on late into the night.

Masseria Torre Coccaro

A 16th-century fortified masseria, built as a watchtower against Saracen raids and now a family-run resort just steps from the Adriatic. A pool among the olive trees, a bougainvillea pergola for the reception and two private beaches reached by shuttle, for couples who want to take part of the party onto the sand.

Masseria Torre Maizza

A 16th-century masseria in the Savelletri countryside, restored as a luxury hotel by Rocco Forte. Ceremonies among the olive trees, beautiful gardens and a relaxed, elegant atmosphere, ideal for more intimate weddings.

Masseria Montenapoleone

A 17th-century masseria among the ancient olive groves just outside Fasano, now a boutique hotel with a spa and pool. An intimate setting where guests can also stay.

Tenuta Monacelle

A small village of trulli in Selva di Fasano, on the hills above the sea, founded in 1790 by the Benedictine nuns of Monopoli. Some rooms are inside the historic trulli themselves: perfect if you want trulli in your photos and all your guests close by, a few kilometres from Alberobello.

Ostuni and the Itria Valley

Masseria Traetta

A late 19th-century masseria a few kilometres from Ostuni, on the road to Ceglie Messapica, set in a park of more than 40 hectares of olive groves and woodland. Its arched portico, gardens, terrace and indoor rooms let you spend the whole day in one place, and there are guest rooms and a pool among the olive trees.

Dimora dei Semplici

A country house in the Ostuni countryside among authentic trulli, ancient olive trees and two pools. A relaxed, genuine atmosphere: wooden tables, hay bales, outdoor ceremonies among dry stone walls, and the trulli as a natural backdrop for portraits.

Masseria Grieco

A country resort between Ostuni and Cisternino, with trulli, gardens and an infinity pool overlooking the Itria Valley. Suited to civil or symbolic ceremonies; for a church wedding you marry in Ostuni or a nearby town.

Masseria Luco

In the countryside of Martina Franca, surrounded by acres of woodland, with a terrace overlooking a cherry orchard and a consecrated chapel for a religious ceremony right at the masseria. An intimate place in the green heart of the Itria Valley.

Masseria Montalbano

A masseria with almost 500 years of history, recently restored without losing its charm, about 20 minutes from the Adriatic. Rooms of antique wood and local stone, gardens suited to both religious and civil ceremonies, and an in-house kitchen run by the venue itself.

Brindisi and Salento

Masseria Martuccio

In the countryside of Mesagne, between Brindisi and Salento, surrounded by pines, olive trees and vineyards. The ceremony takes place along an avenue of stone columns in the shade of the pines, with stone-walled rooms as an indoor alternative; the party then moves to the large arcaded courtyard under string lights.

Tenuta Moreno

An 18th-century masseria in the countryside of Mesagne, a short drive from the Torre Guaceto nature reserve, now a hotel with outdoor spaces for the ceremony and reception surrounded by greenery.

Casa Resta

A 19th-century residence just outside Francavilla Fontana, among ancient olive trees and Italian-style gardens, with a park and elegant rooms overlooking the grounds: a refined alternative to a masseria, in the Brindisi countryside.

Masseria Lilei

An ancient fortified masseria just outside Lecce, at the centre of a 90-hectare estate of olive groves and vineyards. At the entrance stands a small temple with a 16th-century altar; inside, stone arches, courtyards and gardens host receptions of up to 350 guests outdoors. The beaches of San Foca and Torre dell’Orso are about half an hour away.

Casina Calò

An 18th-century estate in the countryside of Casarano, in the heart of Salento, among orchards, woodland and palm trees. It hosts only one wedding a day and has its own registry office on site, so civil ceremonies can take place without moving.

Tenuta Lucagiovanni

An estate on the edge of Maglie, in Salento, halfway between Lecce and the beaches of the southern Adriatic coast.

Beyond the masserie

If you are looking for something different, in Salento there is Castello Monaci, a 16th-century castle on a wine estate in Salice Salentino, where we have photographed several weddings, including Erica & Ged’s and Luke & Shannon’s. In Savelletri, Borgo Egnazia recreates an entire Apulian village in stone, with two private beaches.

And for couples who dream of marrying by the sea, Le Palme Beach Club in Capitolo, just south of Monopoli: fine white sand, Blue Flag waters, a symbolic ceremony on the beach and a relaxed reception with the sunset over the water.

One last tip

Visit the masseria at the time of day you will get married. The same courtyard can be stunning at sunset and blinding at noon: seeing the real light helps you decide where to hold the ceremony, the aperitivo and dinner.
